The Test of a Champion?

It was a memorable Belmont for a lot of the wrong reasons. Nick Zito made me eat my words about Da'Tara and Big Brown proved the old adage that anything can happen in a horse race.

For me this Belmont will always be remembered as the test of a champion but not for what happened on the track. The real test of a champion at Belmont Park was how long your bladder could hold out while waiting to get to the bathrooms. 94,000 showed up and I hate to think what the situation would have been like if they had a larger crowd. The lines for the bathrooms were enormous. People were actually peeing in the bushes (and there was a line for them too!), My hat is off to the thousands of ladies who had to endure this. There were at least four bathrooms closed in the back of the third floor grandstand and for whatever reason, that is inexcusable.

I go to Turfway for the Lane's End and Kentucky Cup. The facilities (service and food are excellent, very southern) are very run down and sterile, hard to negotiate from the 5th floor to the paddock area or the finish line, the bathrooms ceilings are water damaged and falling down. A fire would be a disaster but the place is all concrete. Anyway Belmont sounds awful, I am going to Churchill for my first time on June 14th to see Curlin. I think it is a better way to experience this historic track than attempt a Derby Day.

Too bad about Big Brown. He went ape shit when they had to move him to the pre-race stall. Kent looked uncomfortable riding him although the strategy looked much the same but something was different. Was it the hoof?

Dutrow's insecurities must be tenfold today. I hope he does not treat himself as he treats others, he will surely start using again.

Funny stuff....a line for the bushes! I went down to the paddock area before the Manhattan and it was getting pretty ugly down there. The third floor is the place to be at Belmont with a crowd like that.

Good meeting you yesterday!

my pal Swifty saw a gentleman relieving himself in a garbage can near the apron!

yeah, great to finally meet you... and the rest of the gang! I think we need to arrange a low key non-event race day hang out...

The bathroom situation was not fun. My girlfriend could not come because of a prior committment and I told her she was lucky she missed it because of the bathroom situation. As a guy , I can deal with anything, but it was a tough day for the ladies....and Big Brown
