A Ticket You Couldn't Throw Away

Here's a gem from the Not to the Swift Archive(which is located in my basement and not open to the public).

I usually crumple up my losing tickets, I don't know why maybe because I get some kind of closure out of it (closure, man is that word overused). Anyway with the Ruffian movie set to air tomorrow night I thought I'd share one of only two tickets that I have ever saved.

This is my two dollar win ticket on Ruffian from her last race, that famous and tragic match race against Foolish Pleasure on July 6, 1975, yes Ruffian was gone but this was a way to hold on to her.

Wow! That is a cool little memento to have lying around the house. Any other interesting horse racing stuff in the "Not To The Swift" archives?

I booked all my friends who liked Ruffian that day, but didn't make them pay. I'm a softie.

Thanks Baloo

I kept a few Belmont programs, I have Secretartiat's and Affirmed among others. I also kept my winning ticket on Affirmed from his Belmont, other than that just Derby mint julep glasses I have everyone back to 1962 I believe.

and Alan, I always suspected you were a bit of a softie although it rarely bubbles to the surface over there at LATG

The Ruffian ticket is real history!Do you have a museum like room in your home all set up with your cool stuff?

Super cool! There's a ticket from my past that I wish still had: a winning ticket I shouldn't have cashed! $2 to win on 7th horse, 7th race on 7-7-77 at Monticello Raceway. He won and I cashed in for $2.50. Big deal. I was 12 yrs old with my grandfather. Wished I had the ticket to this day.
